When you write to me about Uganda, you are not reaching a call centre or a booking form. You are reaching a person who will learn your name, remember what you are hoping to feel, and build a journey that belongs to you alone.
My name is Rebecca Kasasira, and for seven years I have been the founder of Awesome Vacations Uganda. In that time I have learned one thing above all else: a great journey is not sold off a shelf. It is listened for, then shaped, slowly and carefully, around the person who will live it.
That is why I rarely begin with a destination. I begin with a question. What do you want to feel when you look back on this trip? Wonder? Peace? The particular thrill of standing somewhere you never thought you would stand? Once I know that, the gorillas and the game drives and the sunrises over the Nile arrange themselves around the answer.
Why I started this
My very first international guests arrived not quite sure what to expect of Uganda, or of the young woman who would be their guide. I remember the weight of wanting to get it right for them. By the end, they had become some of my warmest friends, and they still recommend me today. That experience taught me what this work really is: not transporting people from place to place, but creating memories that stay with them long after they have flown home.
"Tourism is more than visiting destinations," is how I say it to myself on the hard days. "It is about connecting people with nature, culture and memories." It is the belief that got me started, and it is still the one that gets me up in the morning.
What travelling with me feels like
A honeymooning couple, a family with young children, a group of old friends: each of you wants a completely different Uganda, and I would never hand you the same itinerary. I build every journey from scratch. The lodge is chosen because it suits you, not because it suits a brochure. The pace is yours. And when something needs quietly fixing along the way, there is a real person who knows your name taking care of it.
That word, heard, is the one I hold myself to. Another traveller, Andrea, put it more simply still: a flat, unhesitating "100% recommendation for Rebecca and Awesome Vacations Uganda." I do not take those words lightly. They are the whole reason the practice exists.
Where we are going
Seven years in, I am still learning, still sharpening the craft, still finding new corners of this country to share. My dream is simple and large at once: for Awesome Vacations Uganda to be the trusted name that anyone, anywhere, reaches for when they want an authentic African journey. Not the biggest. The warmest.
If that is the kind of journey you are after, you are already in the right place. The next step is just a conversation, and it costs you nothing but a message.
Shall we begin?
Tell me your travel dream. I will carry the details. No pressure, no hard sell, just an honest conversation about the Uganda that is waiting for you.
